Submerge yourself in a
different world, where your air becomes ocean, your foliage is a coral
garden, and your vehicle is one of the world’s
most sophisticated submarines. Explore Maui’s
underwater paradise to a depth of 130’
aboard the Atlantis 48 passenger submarine. Spacious, air conditioned
surroundings and extra-large viewing ports allow you to relax and enjoy
the wonders of the deep in your one hour adventure.
Atlantis
Submarines also offers the MAUI VALUE PASS! For $15 more
you get the submarine tour, as well as tickets to the Maui Ocean
Center Aquarium (an $18 value), the Maui Tropical Plantation
tram tour (an $8 value), and the Hawaii Nature Center in Iao
Valley (a $6 value). You must do the submarine tour first so that you can
pick up your tickets for the other 3. The cost is $99.99
for adults and $49.99 for
children. (minimum height for children is 36" on submarine).
When filling out the form on the right, request the Maui Value
Pass! This is an excellent entertainment value! The price of the
Maui Value Pass is an EVEN BETTER VALUE in 2008 as the price
is not increasing for dates in 2008. Atlantis
Submarines also offers the SUBMARINE / LUAU COMBO which
offers the submarine experience followed by an evening at the
Royal Lahaina Luau. The rate
for dates in 2008 is $130 per adult and $80 per child 12 and
under..

Maui's best
shallow water reef tour is offered by the Reefdancer. You can enjoy
the beauty of the West Maui Mountains on the top deck, or go down
below where the reef will dazzle you. Divers swim with the boat, and
bring sea life up to the window for close inspection. This is the
family-friendly way to view the reef since children of all ages are
welcome on these tours. They have two lengths of trips offered daily
... a one hour tour at 9:45am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm, and a 90 minute
tour at 2:15pm. The 90 minute tour goes to a second "dive
site" and includes refreshments.

NCL
cruise ship passengers are able do either the
Atlantis Submarines or the Reefdancer on the afternoon
of the first
day
or the morning of the second day in port in Kahului.
The drive to Lahaina takes an hour and we
can arrange a rental car with shuttle pick-up at the
harbor for $39 per day. The Maui Value Pass is also
possible, but you should do the submarine on the first
day so you have time to do the other events on day 2. Lahaina
cruise ship passengers can
do either Atlantis Submarines or the Reefdancer since
both depart from the
same harbor in Lahaina where your cruise ship tender
arrives. We don't recommend the Maui Value Pass for
Lahaina cruise ship passengers because all the other
included events are in central Maui and require a drive
of 45+ minutes. |

Activity
Tips
Viewing the colorful sea life and amazing coral reefs
that inhabit the coastal waters of Maui is one of the things that make a
Hawaii vacation something special. There are lots of ways to do it ...
pick the one that is best for your interest and activity level. For people
who don't want to get wet, here Maui offers two great ways to view our
spectacular underwater world.
Atlantis Submarines offers the only authentic submarine
tour on Maui (the Reefdancer doesn't go under water ... you
just SIT in an area of the boat that is underwater). The shuttle boat ride
to the Atlantis dive site takes about 20 minutes, and the submarine tour
itself lasts about an hour. Atlantis is a cool experience ... the
submarine covers a distance of 1 1/3 miles and you hit depths of 130'. It
really is a different world down there. Try wearing a red shirt ... when
you get down that far the red spectrum completely disappears ... NO it
doesn't make you look naked, but your red shirt sure will look weird!
If you plan to
do the Atlantis Submarine, we recommend that you purchase the
"value pass." The included admission to the Maui
Ocean Center Aquarium more than pays for value pass.
The Reefdancer doesn't
actually submerge, but the viewing compartment is completely underwater
and gives you the sensation of being in a submarine. The greatest variety
of sea life is in the top 20' of reef, so there is lots to see. The one
great advantage of the Reefdancer is for families with very small
children. Kids who are under 36" tall are not allowed on Atlantis
Submarine ... but even infants are OK on the Reefdancer.
There are also several boats that have glass bottom
viewing panels that make Molokini trips
... check out the Pride of Maui, Fourwinds, or Leilani. And don't expect
to see dolphins
or whales
on these short, semi-submersible trips. You probably will see a turtle
though!
